They are molded from wood fiber and are commonly used for domestic and export transport packaging. They are safe to use because they are free of nails and staples.

Inca presswood pallets are ideal for export shipping. They are considered "processed wood", bug free and meet the export specification requirements per IPPCISPM 15 (International Plant Protection Convention-International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures).

They are accepted anywhere in the world without import delays and related extreme penalties. They are compliant without the hassle and expense of further treatment and special stamping. Unlike typical heat treating, the wood drying process will not promote the growth of mold.

Though most countries that trade internationally have implemented ISPM 15, the USA and Canada have in the past agreed to not require the standard when shipping between the two countries. However, the adoption of the standard is being considered and has a strong potential of being implemented as early as January 2013. It is estimated that annually, 300 million pallets move between Canada and the USA.

The change will create a shortage of heat treating capacity for conventional wooden pallets. This will cause many shippers to seek alternate types of export approved pallets.

The Inca presswood pallet is an easy solution. Inca pallets are nestable; therefore saving labor and handling costs and freeing up valuable space. At 50 pallets per stack, it takes half the amount of time to unload a trailer and supply work stations.

They are free of chemicals, including TBP, TCP and TCA, which are a concern to food, produce and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Inca pallets are a complement to corporate sustainability initiatives because they are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Silver.

Litco has recently launched smaller sizes of presswood pallets, including a 24" × 40" pallet for the domestic and export markets. The pallets are targeted at shippers that use, but do not completely utilize, a full size pallet. The smaller size provides better product protection and saves warehousing and related handling expenses. The lighter weight saves the equivalent of 21,000 pounds of unnecessary shipping expense for every 1,000 pallets shipped. The outbound freight savings alone could potentially offset the price paid for the pallet.
