Union Pacific's logistics experts coordinate the efficiency of North America's rail network with the flexibility of trucks and the reach of ocean carriers to provide door-to-door freight transportation solutions. No matter what's being shipped, or where it needs to ship, Union Pacific gets it there.
Operating a fleet of more than 8,000 locomotives and coordinating 200,000 rail cars, Union Pacific makes it easy for customers to ship with the railroad while managing tighter inventories to meet growing business demand.
Working with wholly-owned subsidiary Union Pacific Distribution Services, Union Pacific provides customers with an extensive network of warehouses and transloading facilities to support rail and non-rail served customers.
The railroad's Onboarding Team also helps customers determine which services best meet their transportation needs. This unique "white glove," 90-day service ensures a seamless transition for customers new to rail.

Shipping by rail is the most fuel efficient and environmentally responsible mode of ground freight transportation.
- Union Pacific can move one ton of freight 480 miles per gallon of fuel. That's like a car getting more than 250 miles to the gallon.
- Rail is almost four times more fuel efficient than truck, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
- Freight trains generate a carbon footprint that is an average of 75 percent less than trucks.
