ProTrans Provides an Integrated Solution With Synergistic Collaboration

The ProTrans group of companies collaborates to expand services for customer needs—both domestic and international.
THE CHALLENGE
As manufacturers expand their supply chains and production locations, their logistics needs become more complex, often not fitting neatly into the categories of third-party logistics (3PL) or transportation management. Such is the case for a leading global supplier serving various transportation and industrial markets with production facilities across North America, from Canada to Mexico and Central America.
The customer needed a logistics partner to assist with their cross-border operations and cargo storage requirements while optimizing their supply chain and reducing costs. They were looking for more than just transportation management, but they did not need the full range of services typically offered by a 3PL.
THE SOLUTION
As a specialized logistics partner, the ProTrans group of companies provides a comprehensive range of services to meet domestic and international needs. Our capabilities are highly flexible and supported by a well-established network. More importantly, we are an agile company that adapts our processes based on thorough analysis and solution design. This agility allows us to create tailored solutions that specifically address the unique requirements of our customers.
Working in collaboration between ProTrans’ domestic consolidation services in North America and our global forwarding services through TOC Logistics, our team developed a tailored plan that provides a customized mix of consolidation, cross-dock, warehousing, and freight forwarding services.
We integrated their northbound and southbound freight into our consolidation network for optimization, and our international services provide freight management to Central America. With our cross-border expertise, established network, and more than 30 years of history operating in Mexico, we support their needs along the border within three facilities in Laredo, Nogales, and El Paso.
Our tailored solution includes the following key aspects:
- Consolidation – Freight from various customer plants is consolidated in ProTrans’ centers for Northbound and Southbound linehauls.
- Bonded Warehouse – Warehousing, inventory management, and cross-dock services at three of our border facilities provide the management needed for delivery to various locations in Mexico.
- Broker on Docks – Customs brokers for the customer are on-site at all three border locations to aid in cross-border needs.
- Onsite-Personnel – A supply chain manager is on-site for improved communication and coordination at one of the customer’s Mexico locations.
- International – Freight in one Midwest location is stored, organized for pallet building, and loaded into weekly international containers bound for the customer’s Central America location.
THE RESULTS
This solution offers the customer a single logistics partner to manage their entire supply chain throughout North America and Central America. We have tailored our services to align with their unique needs while collaborating to enhance their operations, routing processes, and shipment visibility. Our solution design team focuses on continuous improvement and in-depth analysis, allowing us to make optimization recommendations that have resulted in significant cost savings.
As the market evolves, we are collaborating with the customer to explore additional opportunities to streamline their operations and adapt our services accordingly. This includes the potential integration of Plan For Every Part (PFEP) for improved visibility, solutions to maximize utilization, ongoing incorporation of technological advancements, service on expedites and time-critical logistics, potential intermodal solutions, opportunities to reduce border transit times with our B1 drivers, and expanding our intra-Mexico capabilities.
