What was once a simple piece of warehouse equipment is now becoming a data source for supply chain intelligence. That’s the takeaway from Inbound Logistics’ recent video podcast, “Pallets as Supply Chain Intelligence Tools,” featuring Jonathan Parks, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at iGPS.

Parks explains that today’s plastic pallets are embedded with technology—such as RFID tags—to deliver real-time visibility across the supply chain. These “smart pallets” capture location, condition, and movement data, helping shippers and retailers improve traceability and reduce freight loss and theft.

The conversation also explores how pallet innovation supports both efficiency and sustainability, offering a glimpse into how automation and analytics are redefining supply chain basics.

Also in the episode:

  • The shift from wood to reusable plastic pallets
  • Operational and safety gains from modern pallet systems
  • How data-enabled assets support traceability and collaboration
