IN BRIEF: New Services and Solutions

Ocean Network Express’ ONE Modern, the first ship on the ocean carrier’s West India North America (WIN) service, called on the Port of Savannah in June 2024, establishing the latest connection between India and Georgia Ports. The new WIN service offers a weekly route from Bin Qasim, Hazira, Nhava Sheva, and Mundra to New York and Savannah. The service is provided by a fleet of nine vessels, all of which are operated by ONE.


Transportation

Challenge Group launched a flight service from Liège to Dubai World Central via Tel Aviv. The flights run on Tuesdays and Fridays, utilizing the Group’s Boeing 767-300BDSF aircraft. This service links the Gulf with Europe and the United States, leveraging Challenge Group’s main hub in Liège.

Lufthansa Cargo now offers freighter capacity to Dubai World Central. The station is open for inbound and outbound cargo, and the service is available to customers twice a week in addition to the belly service from Dubai International Airport, providing more options for handling larger cargo or special freight.

Qatar Airways Group and Malaysia Aviation Group expanded their long-term relationship as oneworld partners by signing an agreement between Qatar Airways Cargo and MASkargo—the cargo airline and subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group. The two cargo carriers now offer enhanced connectivity across both airlines’ global networks via their hubs: Hamad International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Evans Transportation introduced a new service offering in Mexico and tapped Marcelo Baptista as vice president of Mexico operations. The new solution includes cross-border carrier, customs broker, and customer operations.

 


Technology

To help shippers better understand real-time risk and incurred demurrage and detention costs, supply chain visibility provider project44 launched Detention & Demurrage (D&D) Optimization as part of its Movement product. The addition, which includes a D&D calculator and dashboard containing historical and real-time data, enables shippers to minimize these costs.

Ship Angel, a platform for international shippers, secured $5 million in funding to expand its ocean and air freight rate management platform, launching two new AI-powered solutions designed to optimize beneficial cargo owners’ (BCOs) workflows. Ship Angel’s two new products, Contract Amendment Guard and Invoice Audit, provide increased automation to help boost BCOs’ bottom lines.

Kinaxis, a provider of end-to-end supply chain orchestration, introduced a new AI-infused platform, Kinaxis Maestro. The new platform combines proprietary computational technologies to provide transparency across the entire supply chain—from multi-year strategic planning to last-mile delivery.

GoComet added D&D Intel to its AI-powered supply chain visibility platform. D&D Intel can help shippers prevent detention and demurrage overhead. Providing visibility, predictive alerts, and exception workflows, D&D Intel allows for proactive exception handling.

Rygen Technologies launched Corsair, an AI-enabled TMS built with cloud-native architecture. Using Corsair, supply chain professionals can quickly onboard carriers, execute transactions, and maintain end-to-end visibility of shipments.

Warehousing network, ecommerce fulfillment, and logistics solutions provider Kinimatic introduced WareView, a centralized, cloud-based 3PL inventory and warehouse integration platform that offers visibility and control of inbound and outbound freight data. WareView simplifies warehouse system integrations for importers, particularly those involved in fulfillment and ecommerce.

• Product lifecyle management solutions provider Aras released a supplier management solution that streamlines the connectivity of a company’s network of suppliers to product data. The solution allows organizations to collaborate securely with suppliers and OEMs, and provides visibility and data analytics.

apexanalytix, a provider of global supply chain risk management software, now offers Cyber Risk, a solution that automatically assesses the cybersecurity profile of every supplier, continuously monitors the dark web to uncover risk exposure, and responds to threats that can impact suppliers in real time.

A last-mile omnichannel fulfillment solution from OneRail is now available on the SAP Store, the online marketplace for SAP and partner offerings. OneRail’s last-mile solution integrates with SAP S/4HANA, SAP Commerce Cloud, and SAP Transportation Management, and helps shippers save time, reduce operational expenditures, and increase last-mile delivery speed.

Trade Tech, which provides a global logistics platform, now offers 3-Way e-Booking, a collaborative tool that connects the stakeholders involved in each shipment: the shipper, logistics provider, and ocean carrier. The feature centralizes the information, providing the three parties with insight into real-time data.

Altana introduced a value chain management system that lets shippers see their extended supplier and distribution networks based on their actual products, and situate them within the global map. The solution provides contextualized AI decision support.


Products

The Crown SP 1500 Series order picker from Crown Equipment offers a mid-platform window and competitive lift and lower speeds for improved operator safety and easier order picking. The lift truck is capable of traveling at 7.5 mph, with standard lift speeds of 71 fpm (feet per minute) for the 24v, 115 for the 36v, and 140 for the 48v.

ORBIS introduced ORBIShield ECO, a new product line of protective packaging solutions that reduce environmental impacts. The ORBIShield ECO dunnage line is produced using recovered and reprocessed plastic resins and can be recycled at end of life.


The E80XNL electric forklift from Hyster Company offers integrated lithium-ion power. The 8,000-pound capacity cushion tire forklift offers a spacious operator compartment and lower center of gravity. The E80XNL is shorter than a comparable internal combustion engine model, enabling a better turning radius and right-angle stack.

J. J. Keller & Associates offers an updated plastic truck seal which features an anti-rotation locking design and a chain of custody function that allows used seals to be chained together. Additionally, the company provides a free online resource outlining security seal best practices and tips for choosing the right seal for various types of cargo.

The new Solo Lite tracker from Tive is a shipment visibility solution that provides global coverage utilizing 4G/5G with 2G fallback and WiFi positioning. The tracker incorporates real-time location tracking and temperature monitoring features. It can track light exposure to identify tampering, theft, or improper handling.


Services

DHL Supply Chain, DHL Group’s contract logistics specialist, is constructing a new logistics center offering up to 55,000 pallet spaces at its multi-user campus in Leipzig/Halle, Germany. The new DHL Supply Chain facility, expected to go live in Q4 2024, provides multimodal connections to various transport modes, from the domestic DHL parcel and express network, through rail and highway networks, to the Leipzig/Halle cargo airport.

Saia opened two new LTL terminals: one near Anaheim, California, and another facility in Owatonna, Minnesota. The facilities add direct shipping points to provide increased shipping flexibility and reliability.

Roadie, a UPS company and a logistics management and crowdsourced delivery platform, launched RoadieXD, a solution for big and bulky deliveries. The new offering utilizes cross-dock facilities to enable rapid local delivery of oversized or oddly shaped items within a 100-mile radius of distribution centers. RoadieXD makes it possible to deliver large items, such as big-screen TVs or mini-fridges, on the same day they are ordered.

The air and ocean division of Nordic Transport Group is adding U.S. inbound supply chain services with the launch of NTG Supply Chain Solutions. Helping automotive and industrial manufacturing customers optimize logistics spend, the new subsidiary collaborates with Nordic Transport Group’s established U.S. and European air and ocean divisions, leveraging its road, air, and ocean services.

CN added two new firefighting trains along with two additional railcars to its fire mitigation and suppression fleet. The Trident and the Neptune trains join CN’s existing firefighting train, Poseidon. The three trains will provide support in combating wildfires along CN’s right-of-way, bringing water and fire suppression capacity to isolated areas.

ITS Logistics opened a transportation center in Fort Worth, Texas, to grow its operations, including network transportation management, drayage and intermodal, distribution and fulfillment, final-mile delivery, and managed solutions. The newly remodeled 20,000-square-foot center is set to open in Q3 2024.

ODW Logistics opened a 930,000-square-foot facility in Columbus, Ohio. Located 5 minutes away from Rickenbacker International Airport—the primary port for goods flowing into Columbus, Ohio—the food-grade facility supports ODW Logistics’ retail consolidation services.

DP World offers a new method of containerizing finished vehicles, using a 53-foot container instead of a traditional 40-foot container. Standard 40-foot containers typically house a maximum of four cars, whereas 53-foot-long containers can accommodate up to six vehicles. DP World is pioneering this solution in a trade route from Mexico through the United States and Canada, decreasing costs for OEMs.

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a member of the SATS Group, was selected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to operate a new centralized examination station at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The station, which begins its phased opening in Q1 2025, is the first on-airport examination facility at JFK, processing import, export, and USDA (Department of Agriculture) goods.

RoadOne IntermodaLogistics is building a new distribution and transload facility in Summerville, South Carolina, near the Port of Charleston. The site spanning almost 100 acres will be built in two phases, with phase one featuring a 384,800-square-foot facility and 13 acres of dedicated trailer and container parking set to open in January 2025. The second phase is set to open in January 2027.
